Veterinary Pharmacy Reference

Infinity integrates with the Veterinary Pharmacy Reference (VPR) software from Veterinary Software Associates; eliminating the need for separate formulary for looking up dosages to calculate a patient's drug dose!

Updated twice a year, the Infinity VPR integration includes Printable Drug Information and Client Information Sheets on Generic and Brand Name Human and Veterinary Drugs including Otic, Ophthalmic, and Topical preparations, Off Label Consent Forms, Anesthesia Consent Forms, Interactive Anti-parasitic Charts, a Weight & Measurement Chart, a Temperature Conversion Chart, and a Drug Interaction Matrix.

The Drug Information Screen offers Brand Names, Pharmacology, Indications, Contraindications, Interactions, Adverse Effects, Available Forms and Dosages. Utilizing this powerful tool, Infinity users can provide their clients with a pharmaceutical data sheet containing cautions, side effects, and possible drug interactions saving the staff both time and money. VPR also provides the ability to Search for any Drug by Generic Name (including Combo Drugs), Brand Name, Category, Body System and Client History.

Risk events are occurrences or incidents caused by nature, fraud or other problems that can impact your businesses ability to achieve its objectives. They can damage reputation, revenue generation, customer loyalty or other key aspects of your business. When no mechanism is in place to plan for RISK, no preparedness is possible.

This is why Veterinary Software Associates has started making changes to its VPR to help you build that mechanism for use in your practice.

• No more naked decimals: The ISMP (Institute for Safe Medication Practices) has said that a "steady stream of reported errors due to misinterpreting a handful of dangerous dose expressions and abbreviations has led ISMP to repeatedly recommend abandoning their use for almost three decades. Many computer systems display drug doses using naked decimal points or trailing zeros, and use dangerous abbreviations such as QD and U. Thus, misinterpretation of an order is still a very real possibility with CPOE when these dangerous forms of communication are used." So before VPR released the latest Version 2.9 Build 2A, they eliminated all of those abbreviations and naked decimals to help the practice minimize the RISK in the interpretation of daily dispensing of medications.
• Coming Summer 2012 - taLL mAN letters: The ISMP, NABP and FDA CVA have determined that the use of tall man letters is one means of reducing confusion between similar drug names, thus helping reduce the RISK of incorrect drug selections. VPR agreed and its Mid-Summer 2012 Medicine Database Update will use the taLL mAN lettering scheme following the guidance of the aforementioned organizations.
